Kesha Hits Back With Defiant New Anthem 'My Own Dance': Watch The Video

Kesha is done living up to other people’s expectations on her brand new single.

On Thursday (November 21), the musician unveiled a new track titled “My Own Dance,” the second offering off her long-awaited fourth studio album, High Road. And much like its Big Freedia-assisted leader “Raising Hell,” Kesha’s latest anthem finds the singer dancing to the beat of her own drum.

“Woke up this morning, feeling myself/ Hungover as hell like 2012, f—k it,” Kesha opens the track, before crooning of the conflicting demands of pop stardom in the defiant pre-chorus: “‘You’re the party girl, you’re the tragedy’/ But the funny thing’s I’m f—king everything.”

While announcing the visual for her new tune on Instagram, Kesha described “My Own Dance” as the “mission statement” of her next album, due out on January 10, 2020.

In a recent interview with The Atlantic, Kesha spoke about how the record brought back the joy she felt of returning back to the genre that made her a star. “I had to do some thinking about it,” she expressed of her reluctance to writing pop music again. “I felt I didn’t deserve to just be unapologetically joyous and happy, because as the the whole world knows, I’ve been through some … traumatic things in my life.” The vocalist said that all changed with “My Own Dance,” adding that “it was making my life happier by making happier music.”
