3 Simple Ways to De-Stress in Just Sixty Seconds

You may have your own ways to reset and relax, like a glass of wine (or three)...but there are much more effective methods out there. So next time you need to de-stress, try one of these:

  • Do something else - Immediately following a tense experience, get your brain focused on something completely different like a smartphone game. This will help you detach emotionally which later might help you solve your problem or at least move past it.
  • Work out slower - While you may feel like taking out your tension with an intense session, light exercise may be better at easing anxiety. Pushing yourself too hard in a workout raises the level of your stress hormone called 'cortisol', and that's no bueno.
  • Write it out - Go old school and pull out the pen and paper to document your stressful situation. Mithu Storoni, author of “Stress-Proof” explains that writing helps remove the emotion of the situation, which reduces its intensity.
